Good afternoon everyone! I am tearing myself away from the Olympics for just a minute to show all of you my family photo gallery wall! I am in love with it!! It turned out exactly how I wanted it to. So, I am going to show you how to do one of your own. Let me start off by telling you about our photographer! She is amazing and happens to be my sister-in-law! Her name is Megan Bronson and here is a link to her photography site! Seriously, everything she does is amazing. She has such an eye for beauty. Plus the way she captures everything (color, expressions, the world around her) is simply perfect! She took these pictures for us about 3 months ago and I couldn't wait to get them up. But, I had to wait because of the move. I decided I needed color in out new home. Everything is either black or brown so I really needed some fun accent colors. I had these great pillows I use on our couches that I used as my inspiration.
Ok first you will need, wooden frames (I used 8X10 size), wooden plaques, paint, clear coat, photo corners, paint sponges and brushes and of course the photos. I got all of this, excluding the photos, at Hobby Lobby. It all came to about $50 dollars total. A Steal!!
Start by painting all of your frames. I used black spray paint and then a spray clear coat.
Then paint your plaques the colors that you would like. I used two different sizes and three different colors. When the two coats have dried. I "inked" the edges with some black toll paint. For me, the best way to do this is use a small triangle make up sponge and carefully just tap the edges all around. I love the effect. When that has dried spray with the clear coat.
Next choose the photos you would like to use and cut them to fit. The 5X7 size I didn't have to cut down at all but the 4X6 size I had to trim down. To attach them to the plaques I used scrap booking photo corners. I wanted to be able to switch out the photos easily the next time we got pictures done, instead of gluing them on and having to completely re-do them. Put the photo corners on your pictures. Add a dab of super glue to each corner and then center and press them onto the plaque. Super simple.
All that's left, is to hang them up!! I used small nails for the frames so I could take them down and switch out the pictures. For the plaques I used Command Strips because I wouldn't need to take them down to switch out the pictures. The Command Strips made them so easy to hang! First I hung up some paper towels that were about the size of my frames on the wall. I wanted to get a general idea of the spacing and arrangement.
The plaques I just eyeballed. I know, brave huh!! But it worked out great and it all goes perfectly in our entry way with our new black bench and the pillows!! My next project will be a coat rack to hang on the opposite wall. So stay tuned for it in the next week or so! XOXO
