Fabric Bookmark

-----Update 1/13/2012------ I will be giving away a set of two of these bookmarks on my facebook page as soon as I make it to 200 fans! Click on over and become a fan. We are only 10 away from 200!!!
Hey everyone! Its pretty late as I am writing this but I knew if I didn't post tonight it wouldn't happen tomorrow! Its going to be a crazy busy mom day! I decided to make these bookmarks because I love to read!! I don't get to do it as often as I would like right now but I try to sneak it in when I can!! The problem is, whenever I try to find my spot, the book mark is missing. For some reason my son loves to pull it out. I tried folding the edge of the page over for a while but I cringed every time that I did because I knew I was destroying the poor book. These bookmarks are great because kids can't pull them out! Plus they are pretty darn cute!

I started out with some scrap pieces of cotton material. 2 pieces that measure 17 inches by 2 inches long. This is for a decent sized book. You will want to make them a little shorter for a smaller book. I also had a 3 inch piece of coordinating ribbon, a button, and a pretty stretchy hairband.

Next, lay the two pieces of material on top of each other, front side to front side. Fold the ribbon in half with the hairband inside and lay it on one end of the fabric. The loop pointing into the fabric. Pin it all down to hold it in place. Then sew a 1/2 inch seam around 3 sides of the fabric leaving one end open so that it can be turned inside out. When sewing be sure that the hairband on the inside doesn't get into the seam.

Turn the fabric inside out and it should look like this.

Fold in the ends that weren't sewn and then iron the entire thing. Next sew another 1/2 inch seam around all edges.

Last of all, sew the button on the opposite end. Be sure to sew it on well because hopefully it will be well used!
